BIO

Originally from Nottingham, Thomas was an Associate Young Artist at The National Opera Studio and is a Sybil Tutton award winner supported by Help Musicians. He was previously a Young Artist at The National Opera Studio and graduated from Royal Northern College of Music where he earned his MMus and Postgraduate Diploma. In 2017 Thomas was also the recipient of The Wexford Festival Opera’s Aria Friends Bursary. 

 

Upcoming events in 2023/24 include Alcade Marchese cover in La Forza del Destino at the Royal Opera House, Doctor Grenvil in La Traviata for the Scottish Opera and many more. Visit the upcoming events page for more information.

Thomas D Hopkinson has also been credited as Thomas Hopkinson and Tom Hopkinson.

Events in the 2022/23 season include Kaboul Lalla-Roukh for Wexford Festival Opera, a return to The Royal Opera to sing the roles of Sciarrone Tosca & The Second Armoured Man Die Zauberflöte and Zuniga Carmen for Scottish Opera

In the 2021/22 season he performed Zuniga (cover) in Carmen for Opera North, Mathieu Andrea Chénier for The Chelsea Opera Group and he made his Royal Opera debut singing the 4th Baron in Wagner’s Lohengrin.

Thomas also works on the concert platform and has performed Beethoven’s ninth symphony, Handel’s Messiah, Brahms’ Requiem, Tippet's A Child of Our Time, Mozart's Requiem, Faure’s Requiem, Vaughan Williams' Fantasia on Christmas Carols, Haydn’s The Creation, Rossini’s Petite Messe Solonnelle, Buxtehude’s Membra Jesu Nostri, Samuel in Handel’s Saul, Elgar’s The Dream of Gerontius, Levite in Handel’s Solomon, Mozart’s Mass in C Minor, Dvorak’s Stabat Mater, Vaughan Williams’ Dona nobis pacem, Verdi’s Requiem and multiple Opera Galas.

Singing Lessons

As a professional singer, Thomas has insight into the performing business not just from an operatic stance but covering all aspects of singing in the performing arts. 

Thomas can help with all aspects of singing including but not limited to:

  • Vocal technique

  • Breathing technique

  • Developing stage presence

Vocal Coaching

Alongside the technical aspects of vocal lessons Thomas also works extensively as a Vocal Coach. This is a chance for singers to develop their understanding of stylistic singing and embodying characters into their performances.

  • Preparing for a concert/recital 

  • Audition prep 

  • Help with audience engagement

Vocal Animateur
